Cinema One Originals Festival, Komikon 2016, and more in this weekend’s event guide

Manila (CNN Philippines Life) — This weekend, attend the Cinema One Originals Film Festival, celebrate the art of Filipino comics at Komikon 2016, catch the Philippine Ballet Theatre’s performance of “The Nutcracker,” attend the fifth iteration of the Lifedrawing Setup, partake in an artist talk at the National Museum, and watch local indie bands at Alternatrip’s “Pop Up the Volume!”

Cinema One, in partnership with the Film Development Council of the Philippines, will be holding its 12th Digital Film Festival. The films are being shown in cinemas all over the Metro until Tuesday, Nov. 22. This year’s full-length films include “Lily” by Keith Deligero, “Every Room is a Planet” by Malay Javier, “Baka Bukas” by Samantha Lee, “Si Magdalola at Mga Gago” by Jules Katanyag, “Malinak Ya Labi (Silent Night)” by Jose Abdel Langit, “2 Cool 2 Be 4gotten” by Petersen Vargas, “Tisay” by Borgy Torre, “People Power Bombshell: The Diary of Vietnam Rose” by John Torres, “Piding” by Paolo Picones and Gym Lumbera, and “Forbidden Memory” by Teng Mangansakan. In addition to the films featured, Cinema One has also procured various international films that will be shown alongside the full length features and the documentaries. Spend your weekend with local comic book creators both young and old at Komikon’s 12th annual comic convention happening on Saturday, Nov. 19 until Sunday, Nov. 20 from 10 a.m. to 7.p.m. at the Bayanihan Center, Pioneer St., Pasig. Tickets will be at ₱100 for one-day passes, but a limited number of two-day passes will be available at any Comic Odyssey branch for ₱150.                                             Ballet Philippine Theatre’s “The Nutcracker”

Catch the Philippine Ballet Theater’s performance of the holiday classic, “The Nutcracker,” which follows a little girl’s journey through a world of fairies, princesses, and toy soldiers. The performance serves as a conclusion of the Philippine Ballet Theater’s 30th anniversary celebration. The performances will be on Friday, Nov. 18 at 8 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 19, at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Complex, Roxas Boulevard, Manila. Tickets will be available on-site and online through Ticketworld.

Whoaremaro will be holding their male and female nude figure drawing session on Saturday, Nov. 19, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Warehouse 8-B, La Fuerza Plaza II, Chino Roces Avenue, Makati. They have also invited local artists that will be selling art prints and stickers at the venue. The event will also feature live music by Similar Objects x Asch and Bedspacer.                          Artist Talk: Tiny Nuyda on the “Uncommon Art of Glenn Bautista”

As part of the late Glenn Bautista’s exhibition entitled “The Uncommon Art of Glenn Bautista,” Tiny Nuyda’s artist talk is meant to acquaint and deepen the public’s understanding and appreciation of Bautista’s work. The talk will held on Friday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Roxas Hall of the National Museum of Fine Arts, Manila.                                             Alternatrip Presents: Pop Up the Volume

Spend your Saturday night with local indie pop bands: Memory Drawers, Washington Drama Club, The Geeks, The Strange Creatures, Loba y Lobos, and Space Onigiri. Catch these bands at Mow’s, Kowloon House Basement, Matalino St., Quezon City, on Saturday, Nov. 19 from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Entrance is ₱150 inclusive of a free drink.
