Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — Kirstie Elaine Alora will be the only Filipino taekwondo jin headed to the upcoming Olympic games in Rio after a second place finish at the recently concluded Asian Qualifying Tournament in Pasay City.
Alora finished second in a field of five competitors in the Seniors Female A +67kg category, getting past Nepal’s Nisha Rawal and top-seeded Akram Khodabandeh of Iran.
The Filipina fell short of the gold after falling to Taipei’s Huai Hsuan Huang.
Only the top finisher and the first runner-up qualify for the Olympic Games.
In the -57kg division Filipina Pauline Louise Lopez almost came close to an Olympic berth, but only managed a second runner-up finish after losing out to Thailand’s Phannapa Harnsujin.
In the men’s division, Sam Morrison (-80kg) and Kristopher Robert Uy (+80kg) failed to make the cut as well.
