Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) said the red tide alert over several areas in the Visayas and Mindanao are still up.
In a report on Friday (January 29), the BFAR said that latest laboratory reports showed that shellfish collected from the following areas tested postive for paralytic shellfish poison beyond the regulatory limit:
Balite Bay in Mati, Davao Oriental
coastal waters of Dauis, Bohol
coastal waters of Daram Island in Daram, Irong-Irong Bay, and Cambatutan Bay in Western Samar
coastal wates of Leyte and Cariaga Bay in Leyte
coastal waters of Pilar and Sapian Bay in Capiz
coastal waters of Gigantes Islands in Carles, Iloilo
coastal waters of Naval, Biliran island
BFAR said all types of shellfish and krill, locally known as alamang, caught in the said areas are not fit for human consumption.
However, fish, squid, shrimps, and crabs may be eaten provided they are fresh, washed thoroughly, and all internal organs are removed before cooking.
The BFAR advisory came after an earlier report saying that the same areas were under watch due to red tide.
