Malolos City (CNN Philippines) — Over three million residents in Bulacan stand to benefit from the Bulacan Bulk Water Supply Project, a public-private partnership (PPP) project that aims to help meet the increasing water demand of Bulakenyos.
President Benigno Aquino III personally received the signed agreement in Malolos City on Friday (January 15), after coming from an event in Angat, Bulacan.
The concession agreement was signed by the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) and the San Miguel Corporation-Korea Water Resources Corp. consortium.
The consortium will provide financing for the construction and conveyance facilities and treatment facilities.
Authorities said Bulakenyos are suffering from inadequate water supply due to the over-extraction of depleting groundwater supply.
The 30-year concession deal covers 21 municipalities and three cities in the province.
This is the first water project awarded under PPP program of the government.
