Baguio expects over 1M tourists this February

Baguio City (CNN Philippines) — Baguio City is bracing itself for an estimated 1.1 million tourists expected to flock the city in February to take part in the month-long Panagbenga, also known as the Baguio Flower Festival.

The city’s tourism officer Benny Alhambra said the number is expected to rise with the long weekends brought by the Chinese New Year and the Philippine Military Academy Alumni Homecoming.

Alhambra added that tourism officials are working closely with businesses that provide accommodation in the city to make sure they are up to standard.

Most large hotels and inns in the city have been fully booked from February to March since December

Alhambra cautioned visitors to directly transact with legitimate accommodation establishments to avoid fraudsters who take advantage of the situation.

Activities for the Baguio Flower Festival start with a grand opening parade on February 1 and will end with a grand fireworks display on March 6.

The highly anticipated Grand Street Dancing Parade will be on February 27 while the Grand Float Parade will be on February 28.

According to Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan, this year’s theme “Bless the children with flowers,” is seeking to give importance to children who are the city’s future and its most valuable resource.
