#DuterteSerye trends minutes before COC filing closes

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — Hear that sound? That is the sound of the shattering hearts of the supporters of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

Many supporters of Duterte were on the edge of their seats waiting if he will show up at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) main office before the official filing of certificates of candidacy closed at 5 p.m. of Friday (October 16).

But the emotional rollercoaster ride ended in heartbreak.

Minutes before 5 p.m., Duterte reiterated in his Facebook account that he still is not interested in the presidency.

“A little over two years ago, I posted in the government website over the Internet that I was not interested in the Presidency. Nothing has changed. I am comfortable where I am now… I want to retire. I am tired. Give the presidency to the one who wants it. I don’t,” he said.

When Comelec officially closed the filing, there was no Duterte in sight.

Just when some of his supporters gave up on convincing Duterte after he filed his COC on Thursday for mayor of Davao, a plot twist happened. His daughter, Sara Duterte Carpio, posted on Instagram on Friday afternoon that she also filed her COC to run for mayor in Davao City and asked for support to make her father the president of the Philippines come 2016.

Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez earlier said that Duterte can still file his COC for president as long as he withdraws his mayoral candidacy and file another one as long as it is within the filing period.
