PBA to fully support national team; 17-man pool for Olympic qualifier announced

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — Gilas Pilipinas fans will finally see their favorite Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) players in the national team.

Why?

Because the PBA committed to fully support the Gilas program, according to a tweet posted by the PBA’s official Twitter account @pbaconnect on Wednesday (October 14).

In fact, the pool, from which head coach Tab Baldwin will form the country’s best team, was already named on Wednesday.

Below is the list of players who were called to serve the tricolor flag in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) next year:

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) will announce the final 12, including the naturalized cager, by the end of January.

Aside from that, first play-for-pay league in Asia also agreed to adjust its calendar, with the Governors’ Cup set to start after the end of the OQT.

The Olympic qualifier is slated from July 4 to 10 next year.

Starting November, the selected players will attend practice sessions every Monday for 28 weeks.
