(CNN Philippines) — Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s son, former Rep. Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo, filed on behalf of the former president her certificate of candidacy (COC) at the Commission on Elections on Wednesday (October 14) so she could run for reelection in the second district of Pampanga.
Arroyo has cervical spondylosis, a chronic condition that affects the spine. She has been under hospital arrest at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) in Quezon City as she faces a plunder case over the alleged misuse of P366 million worth of Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) funds.
Raul Lambino, Arroyo’s counsel, has maintained that she is qualified to run despite her health.
There are currently no other candidates vying for the same position.
