San Miguel governor: Pressure on Beermen

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — After winning two championships last season, San Miguel Beer governor Robert Non knows the Beermen are the marked men once the 41st season of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) unfurls on Sunday (October 18).

“I admit ‘yung pressure na sa amin because we won two championships last season,” said Non, also the PBA chairman, during the press conference on Tuesday (October 13).

Behind back-to-back MVP June Mar Fajardo, the Beermen captured the Philippine Cup and Governors’ Cup trophies last season.

Unfortunately for the Beermen, their prized center is still hounded by his foot injury.

“Hopefully, June Mar can join full practice na,” the amiable official said of Fajardo, whose plantar fasciitis injury also prevented him from joining the national team in the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship in China.

Aside from Fajardo, sweet-shooting Marcio Lassiter is still recovering from a hamstring injury, and Non hopes that both players will be good to go for their opening game.

Tagged by most governors as the team to beat, San Miguel Beer will open its campaign opposite GlobalPort Batang Pier on October 24 in Davao City.
