(CNN Philippines) — Mark Zuckerberg is serious when he says he wants Internet for everybody.

On Tuesday (October 6 PHT), the Facebook chief executive announced a project that will deliver Internet services from outer space to large parts of sub-Saharan Africa.

Partnering with Eutelsat, a satellite provider based in France, Zuckerberg said that they will “launch a satellite into orbit that will connect millions of people.”

In a post on his Facebook page, Zuckerberg says this will be done because it’s often difficult to connect people who live in remote areas of the globe. He says new technologies have to be invented.

The satellite, called Amos-6, will be launched in 2016 and will be in geostationary orbit, meaning it will travel at the same speed as the Earth.

Zuckerberg added: “We’re going to work with local partners across these regions to help communities begin accessing internet services provided through satellite.”

The launch of Amos-6 is connected to Zuckerberg’s Internet.org project which aims to provide free basic Internet services to less developed places in the world.
