P7.3M to go before ‘Heneral Luna’ breaks even

John Arcilla plays the brash, brutally honest, and fiercely passionate General Luna, who is desperately struggling to bring a people together to fight for their motherland.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — Historical biopic Heneral Luna only has P7,312,339 left to reach the P200 million and to break even, producer Joji Alonso of Quantum Films — distributor of the film — announced on Saturday morning (October 3).

She said that the film by Jerrold Tarog, which brings famed Filipino leader General Antonio Luna back to life, grossed more than P12 million in the theaters on Friday.

“Konti na lang po ang kailangan para maabot ang magic number na siyang magbibigay hudyat para sa susunod na pelikula,” her post said.

The producers, distributor, and actors of the film called for Filipinos to support the film to reach its breakeven point of P200 million so that producers may have the resources to start its next film on another national hero.

Heneral Luna, which stars John Arcilla as the short-tempered but patriotic general, is a part of a planned trilogy. The second film will be about Gen. Gregorio del Pilar and the third will be about Pres. Manuel Quezon.

Heneral Luna is the country’s official entry to the 2016 Oscars for the Best Foreign Language Film category.

Alonso also asked for support to help its Oscars campaign, which she said needs “$2M to make a decent run.”

Heneral Luna is now the highest-grossing historical film of all time after it crossed the P170 million mark at the box office.
