Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo asked the Liberal Party (LP) for more time to decide on the offer to be the running mate of Manuel “Mar” Roxas II.
Robredo said her daughters are still against the idea, even after a meeting with President Benigno Aquino III and Roxas himself.
“Seryosong kino-consider. Pero kailangan kasing sagutin ‘yung apprehensions ng mga bata,” Robredo said.
“Sana naiintidihan lang ako kasi nanay ako hindi naman pwedeng talikuran ko na lang basta yung pakiramdam ng anak ko,” she added.
Robredo explained she simply cannot leave her duty as a mother, especially since her daughters are still coping with the death of their father, former Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo.
“Alam naman natin elections sa atin kahit anong ayos ng gawa mo, talagamg nagiging viscious yung ibang tao. Kailangan ko lang masiguro na kaya ko ma-protect yung mga anak ko sa ganun.”
Robredo told the media in an interview that she plans to make a final decision by next week, just days before the filing of certificates of candidacy.
LP to announce vice presidential bet, senatorial ticket soon
The clock is ticking fast for Robredo since the LP will formally announce its candidates soon.
LP secretary general and Occidental Mindoro Rep. Josephine Sato said the formal announcement of their lineup from the president to the senators will be made on Monday (October 5).
Budget Secretary Florencio “Butch” Abad said the party is now in its final stages in ironing out a complete slate.
LP stalwart Erin Tañada, who is also pushing for Robredo to be the party’s vice presidential bet, said they will allow Roxas to choose his running mate and be involved in finalizing the senatorial lineup.
