Negros Occidental laborers to get P10 million El Niño mitigation fund

Bacolod City (CNN Philippines) — Laborers in Negros Occidental will get almost P10 million in El Niño mitigation funds, according to Regional Director Ponciano Ligutom of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-Region 6.

The fund will come from the P50 million allocation of the DOLE in anticipation of El Niño, Ligutom said.

He said the budget would cover starter kits on emergency and livelihood employment.

A total of P3.8 million of starter kits will be given to 400 participants during the fourth quarter of 2015, while P5.7 million will be distributed to 600 participants in the first quarter of 2016.

Ligutom said the fund would help workers and farmers to be well prepared in the incoming dry season.
