Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — More personnel of the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (HPG) went on Sunday (September 13) through a Deputies’ Training Seminar on the enforcement of traffic rules and regulations.
After the seminar, which was conducted by the Land Transportation Office, the HPG members took an exam.
If all of them could pass the exam, 56 more of the PNP-HPG would be allowed to issue traffic citation tickets.
As of writing, 65 of the 170 PNP-HPG personnel have been deputized by the LTO.
Chief Supt. Arnold Gunnacao, HPG chief, said that, with more of the HPG get deputized, more motorists would follow traffic rules in fear of getting apprehended.
He added the LTO would conduct more seminars so that eventually, all of the PNP-HPG members would be authorized to apprehend erring motorists.
Gunnacao said he was happy with the performance of the HPG personel who had been deployed along EDSA this week.
From the first day of their deployment, Gunnacao said he saw progress in the flow of traffic throughout EDSA, but said this could further be improved if commuters and motorists would cooperate and follow traffic rules.
He admitted though that heavy rain and floods caused inevitable congestion, which is why the PNP-HPG are working with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to study better alternative routes.
