Zamboanga City (CNN Philippines) — Members of the police and military successfully arrested the suspected abductors of a Zamboanga del Sur mayor and a former Department of Education (DepEd) official on Friday afternoon (September 11) in Zamboanga Sibugay.
Police identified the suspects as Rene Sabtal, aka Mr. Suave, and a certain Ronie Sabtal.
The suspects were arrested at around 3:45 p.m. at Purok 7, South Look, Barangay Kaliantana, Naga Zamboanga Sibugay, where police and military personnel served the warrant.
Also confiscated were five rifle grenades, several assorted firearms, camouflage uniforms, illegal drugs, and a fragmentation grenade.
The two arrested individuals were suspects in the abduction of Naga Mayor Gemma Adana last April 6.
They were also the suspects in the kidnapping of retired DepEd official Isabel Muyarga and her grandson Kyle Hamad.
