Gloria Macapagal Arroyo attends brother’s wake

Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was supposed to visit her brother at the Makati Medical Center Tuesday afternoon. Arturo suffered from stage four prostate cancer.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — Former President and now-Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is at the Heritage Park in Taguig City for her brother Arturo’s wake.

Arroyo arrived at around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday (August 11) and was greeted by her daughter, Luli, and Vice President Jejomar Binay.

Arroyo’s convoy, that was composed of eight vehicles including three police mobiles and several unmarked vehicles, left the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) at around 2:40 p.m.

Arroyo is currently under hospital arrest at the VMMC for plunder charges.

She initially asked the Sandiganbayan for furlough to visit her brother, Arturo Macapagal, in Makati Medical Center. But hours before Arroyo was scheduled to visit, Arturo died of prostate cancer at the age of 72.

The anti-graft court granted Arroyo’s plea to visit her brother’s wake today until Thursday, August 13 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

She was allowed to leave the VMMC two hours earlier for travel time.
