Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — American indietronica band Passion Pit was forced to cancel their Manila concert due to lead singer/keyboards Michael Angelakos’ lingering issue with bronchitis.
Concert promoter Vybe Productions announced the sad news on Thursday (August 6), saying that Angelakos was mandated by his doctors to take the few weeks off to rest and recuperate.
The concert was supposed to be on August 13 at the World Trade Center, as a part of Passion Pit’s worldwide tour.
For those who already purchased their tickets, refunds will start on August 10 at all Ticketworld outlets.
Passion Pit is the band behind the hit song, “Take A Walk.”
Vype Productions, however, assured Passion Pit fans that it will still try to bring the band to the Philippines once Angelakos recuperates.
More cancellations
Vybe Productions added that all of Passion Pit’s international concerts, including shows in Singapore, Indonesia, Japan, and Australia were also canceled because of the lead singer’s illness.
This was not the first time that Passion Pit had to cancel tours because of Agelakos’ bout with bronchitis.
“This is crushing and breaks my heart. I’m so sorry to have had to cancel all of these shows… I think we all know how incredibly annoying it is to fall ill, but letting fans down is the worst. I am so sorry,” he said in a Facebook post on July 25 when he announced his Canada and Michigan performances.
He mentioned in July that he was first hospitalized on July 20 for bronchitis and he had a difficult time breathing.
“I do wish everyone could understand how upset I am that we can’t get these shows together at the times agreed to do them. Please understand that it’s just because I have become quite ill and really need to rest in order to make sure other shows don’t suffer as well,” he said.
