Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — Remy Morada and Laminou Hamadou came through big as Emilio Aguinaldo College stunned fancied Letran, 83-69, Friday (August 7) to post its first streak of the season in the 91st National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
Morada fired 18 points including 12 in the fourth quarter while the 6-11 Hamadou powered his way through with season-highs 20 points and 24 rebounds to propel the Generals to their second win against five losses.
“They played big,” said EAC coach Andy de Guzman of Morada and Hamadou.
Morada later dedicated the victory to her late mother Lilanie, who passed away exactly a year ago due to cancer.
The Knights, who played minus coach Aldin Ayo, absorbed first setback after roaring to a mighty 7-0 start.
Ayo was suspended for a pair of infractions–one for ridiculing the refs after he showed them his eyeglasses in a game against San Sebastian and the other for throwing a chair outside their dugout.
In the opening game, San Sebastian outlasted Lyceum to rack up its second win.
