Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — There will be two long weekends this August, the Palace reminded the public on Monday (August 3).
August 21 (Friday) is a special non-working day to commemorate the assassination of former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, Jr. in 1983. August 31 (Monday) marks the Araw ng mga Bayani — a regular holiday to honor the Philippines’ heroes throughout history.

Holiday, non-working day pay
Employees who work on holidays are paid substantially more than the overtime rate on regular days (regular hourly rate + 25% of regular hourly rate).
However, a special non-working day is not necessarily the same as a holiday. The difference in the categories’ definitions is reflected in their separate pay rates. Those who work on regular holidays are paid at least 200% of the sum of their daily rate and cost of living allowance.
