Zamboanga City (CNN Philippines) — The Department of Health (DOH) is continuing its investigation on the hospitalization of thousands of children after undergoing deworming procedures by the department.
A team from the DOH, which arrived in Zamboanga city last Friday (July 31) to start their investigation, is currently touring areas in the Zamboanga Peninsula where thousands were said to have experienced reaction to the deworming medicine.
The biggest number of victims was said to be in Zamboanga del Norte.
The City Health Office (CHO) in Zamboanga City reported yesterday (August 3) that there were 29 children who were sent to the hospital last week after experiencing side effects from taking the deworming medicine.
City Health Officer Dr. Rodel Agbulos said that the children came from Barangay Sangali, Talon Talon, Tugbungan, Tumaga, Recodo, Labuan, and Sinunuc.
The children were said to have experienced symptoms such as stomach ache and vomiting.
One victim was hospitalized. Agbulos said, however, that the child had an existing case of peptic ulcer and the hospitalization was not caused by the deworming medication.
