3 S. Koreans quarantined at RITM are MERS-free

Airport personnel are on heightened alert against MERS-CoV.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — The three South Koreans suspected of having the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) tested negative, the Department of Health (DOH) said Tuesday (June 30).

The three were quarantined at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) after they showed symptoms of MERS-CoV.

In an interview with CNN Philippines’ Headline News on Tuesday, DOH spokesman Dr. Lyndon Lee Suy said that strict protocols are in place for travelers coming from South Korea and the Middle East where cases of the virus were recorded.

He added that those who came from countries with confirmed MERS-CoV cases will be subjected to laboratory testing as long as symptoms appear within 14 days from arrival to the Philippines.

“As far as the protocol is concerned, all suspected cases will have to subjected to laboratory testing as well,” Lee Suy said.
