NBA: Clippers acquire Lance Stephenson in trade

Lance Stephenson moves to the Los Angeles Clippers in a move that sees Spencer Hawes and Matt Barnes move to the Charlotte Hornets.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) —  According to a news release on NBA.com on Tuesday (June 16 PHT), the Los Angeles Clippers have made a move for Charlotte Hornets guard Lance Stephenson which sees center Spencer Hawes and forward Matt Barnes move the other way.

Stephenson’s move to the West Coast comes after only spending a single season with the Hornets.

The Charlotte Hornets agreed on the move a year after signing Stephenson to a three-year, $27 million contract extension.

Stephenson played in 61 games with 25 starts for Hornets, averaging 8.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.9 assists in 25.8 minutes.

Prior to his move to Charlotte, Stephenson shined for the Indiana Pacers, averaging 13.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 4.6 assists through 78 starts in his final season with them.

Hornets general manager Rich Cho praised Stephenson’s professionalism following the move.

“We’d like to thank Lance for his contributions last season,” said Cho.  “He was a consummate professional during his time with us.”

In the 2014-15 season, Spencer Hawes appeared in 73 games with 15 starts for the Clippers averaging 5.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 17.5 minutes of action.

Matt Barnes featured 76 times for the Clippers last season, holding averages of 10.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in a campaign wherein he logged a career high of 29.9 minutes a game.

“We are pleased to add a pair of proven veterans to our team,” Cho said.  “Spencer Hawes is an experienced big man whose outside shooting gives us additional flexibility on offense.  Matt Barnes is an experienced veteran who knows the NBA.”
