Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — Rain or Shine outgunned the lethargic Purefoods Star Hotshots 103-88 for their fourth straight victory on Saturday (June 13) in Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governors’ Cup action at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
Wendell Mckines led the Elasto Painters with 28 points and 14 rebounds in the win.
Jeff Chan and Paul Lee led the locals in supporting McKines, scoring 16 and 13 points, respectively.
After being outworked in the first quarter, the Elasto Painters came alive in the second period to outperform the Hotshots from that point onward.
With the lead at 20 points to the Elasto Painters with seven minutes left in the final period, Star staged a final fightback to reduce the lead to 12 with 3:58 remaining.
But McKines nailed a long range jumper to nail a dagger blow into the opposition’s chances as Rain or Shine went on to take the win.
Marc Pingris led Star with 25 points in the losing effort.
The Elasto Painters improved their record to 5-4, while the Hotshots fell to 3-5.
