Thunderstorm submerges parts of Metro Manila

España Boulevard near Dela Fuente and Maceda Streets in Manila were flooded after the sudden rain on Monday (June 8).

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — The sudden downpour Monday afternoon (June 8) submerged parts of Metro Manila.

As of 6:00 p.m., parts of España Boulevard near De la Fuente and Maceda Streets in Manila were still not passable to light vehicles.

Flood in the eastbound lane was gutter-deep while the westbound lane was half-tire deep.

Other major roads are now passable to all types of vehicles.

In Quezon City, areas that have been reported flooded were Tomas Morato corner Scout Castor, Mother Ignacia Avenue, and along EDSA in Quezon Avenue.

More rains

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and many parts of Luzon may experience more rain on Tuesday (June 9) and even on Wednesday (June 10), according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Today’s severe thunderstorms were brought by the intense heat in the morning, with high temperatures likely to happen anew on Tuesday particularly in Tuguegarao.

The heat index in Manila and Cebu is projected to peak over 39°C up to Thursday (June 11), which is not surprising as “actual temperatures” will remain high in Tuguegarao (38°C), Dagupan (35°C), Manila (34°C), and Calapan (34°C).
