Storm signals up in 12 areas as Dodong speeds up

(CNN Philippines) — Typhoon Dodong (international name: Noul) has started moving faster while keeping its strength on 9on the afternoon of Friday, according to a bulletin issued at 5:00 p.m. by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

PAGASA put its speed at 20 kph, up from its previous 17 kph, but still moving west-northest.

It was blowing sustained winds of 150 kph near the center with a gustiness of up t0 185 kph.

PAGASA estimated its rainfall to vary from heavy to intense within its 300-km diamers.

As of 4:00 p.m., its eye was located at 510 km east of Sorsogon City.

As of this posting, Catanduanes is under Storm Signal No. 2.

Meanwhile, the following areas have been placed under Storm Signal No.1:

Camarines Norte

Camarines Sur

Quezon

Polillo Island

Aurora

Quirino

Isabela

Northern Samar

Eastern Samar

PAGASA forecast the following positions for Dodong:

In 24 hours, by Saturday afternoon: 160 km north-northeast of Virac, Catanduanes

In 48 hour, by Sunday afternoon: the vicinity of Tuguegarao City

In 72 hours, by Monday afternoon: 280 km northeast of Basco, Batanes

In 96 hours, by Tuesday afternoon: 810 km northeast of Basco, Batanes, outside of Philippine territory
