SEABA: Gilas Cadets make mince meat of Laos, 124-37

(CNN Philippines) — The Gilas Cadets were a fine-tuned machine again Tuesday (April 28) as they raced off to a blistering start on their way to a 124-37 thwarting of Laos in the Southeast Asian Basketball Championship (SEABA) at the OCBC Arena in Singapore.

The Philippines improved to a 2-0 win-loss card.

Bobby Ray Parks and Russel Escoto were in tow during the first two quarters, combining for 22 points in the first half to lead the team’s outburst that set the tone for the Cadets.

Parks and Escoto went on to finish with 18 and 16 points, respectively.

Troy Rosario took over from there and scored 19 points on top of six rebounds for the Philippines, which actually shot a putrid 6-of-22 from the three-point area but still had more than enough firepower to rack up the win.

The contest was one-sided that naturalized Filipino Marcus Douthit didn’t even need to see action in the country’s second-straight victory in the regional meet.

In its previous outing Monday (April 27), the Philippines toppled Indonesia, 92-36.

Laos, though, showed signs of resiliency in the fourth period, scoring 19 points while the Filipinos had 20. But its effort went for naught as the scores were already far from reach.

The Philippines will next face Malaysia on Wednesday (April 29).
