Alberto Lina to head Bureau of Customs again

Alberto Lina became Customs chief in 2005

(CNN Philippines) — Former Bureau of Customs (BoC) chief Alberto “Bert” Lina is back to head the Customs anew.

The BoC on Thursday (April 23) announced the return of Lina as the new Customs Commissioner, replacing acting chief John Sevilla who resigned from his post earlier in the day.

A turnover ceremony between the outgoing and incoming Customs chiefs is set on Friday (April 24), according to an invite sent by the BoC.

Malacañan also confirmed Lina’s appointment.

Lina became Customs chief in 2005 under the administration of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, but resigned in the same year along with nine other officials during the height of the ‘Hello Garci’ controversy.

Lina is currently the chairman of logistics company Air21.

Sevilla quit from his post citing dismay at the political meddling of ‘outsiders’ in the BoC affairs.
