Kenny Bayless set to referee Mayweather-Pacquiao

Kenny Bayless is one of the most respected referees in the sport and has officiated in some of the biggest fights in recent memory

(CNN Philippines) — Renowned boxing referee Kenny Bayless was appointed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Tuesday (Wednesday April 22 PHT) to be the third man inside the ring for the long-awaited meeting between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao on May 3 (PHT) at the MGM Grand.

Bayless was unanimously selected from a pool with six other referees. In fact, he was appointed following a 5-0 vote during the athletic commission’s monthly meeting.

No stranger to the limelight, Bayless officiated some of the biggest fights in recent history, including the two Pay-per-view shattering fights of Mayweather against Oscar Dela Hoya and Canelo Alvarez, and Pacquiao’s last stoppage against Miguel Cotto and his devastating knock out of Ricky Hatton.

Also unanimously selected by the athletic commission were the three judges tasked with scoring should the fight go the distance.

They are Burt Clements and Dave Moretti, both of Las Vegas, and Glenn Feldman of Connecticut.

Bayless will recieve $25,000, while the three judges will receive $20,000 for their work on the fight that is expected to shatter financial records for a boxing event.

Both fighter’s camps were consulted before the recommendations were made.

Mayweather CEO Leonard Ellerbe said he had no problems with the people being considered. While Top Rank’s Bruce Trampler did air his reservations on two of the judges in the initial list of candidates, he was happy with those selected in the end.
