While the Philippines is best known for its over 7,000 islands and stunning beaches, it is also rich in historical landmarks that showcase the country's cultural heritage. Here are five historical landmarks worth visiting:

1.Intramuros, Manila

Intramuros, also known as the "Walled City," is a National Historical Landmark in Manila. Built in the 16th century when Manila became the capital, Intramuros has withstood centuries of occupation and wars, though it was damaged during World War II. Today, its reconstructed colonial houses and buildings stand alongside the ruins of areas like Fort Santiago.

2.Vigan City, Ilocos Sur

The historic city of Vigan was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site for the preservation of its 16th-century Spanish colonial architecture. Calle Crisologo, with its Spanish-era homes lining cobblestone streets, is a must-visit for anyone who’s ever dreamed of stepping back in time.

3.Corregidor Island, Cavite

Located near Manila, Corregidor Island, known as "The Rock," served as a military stronghold during World War II. It was a key defense point against Japanese attacks. Today, visitors can explore the war-torn buildings and ruins to learn about the island's significant past.

4. Paoay Church, Ilocos Norte

The Saint Augustine Church, commonly known as Paoay Church, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dating back to the late 16th century and completed in the 1700s, the church is renowned for its "Earthquake Baroque" architecture, featuring a pyramid-like shape and 24 large buttresses.

5. Kawit, Cavite

Kawit, Cavite, the birthplace of the first Philippine President, Emilio Aguinaldo, is a site of great historical importance. The Aguinaldo Shrine, which includes the former president's ancestral home, is where Aguinaldo declared independence from Spain on June 12, 1898. The Philippine national flag and anthem were also first unveiled here.
