We’re halfway through the year, and the titles lighting up the screen are only getting brighter. Blockbuster season is in full swing as massive franchises roll out their latest chapters. Universes expand, history is reborn, and July’s lineup is packed with highly anticipated releases.

From reboots of beloved superhero sagas and dinosaur thrillers to an award-winning local gem, here’s a preview of an exciting and spectacular July at the movies:

1. Jurassic World Rebirth

The seventh installment in the Jurassic Park franchise, Jurassic World Rebirth roars back to life with a new set of characters squaring off against familiar dinosaurs and dangerous mutations from past failed experiments. Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey lead the latest doomed team of humans tasked with braving the deadly dinosaur island to retrieve materials that could potentially save countless lives
In cinemas July 2.

2. Superman

The newest Superman soars in as the first feature from writer-director James Gunn under his reimagined DC Cinematic Universe. Ditching the usual origin tale, Gunn launches straight into the action with Superman already defending Metropolis while navigating a budding relationship with Lois Lane. David Corenswet (Twisters) takes flight as the Man of Steel, Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) stars as Lane, and Nicholas Hoult (The Great) suits up as Superman’s arch-nemesis, Lex Luthor.
In cinemas July 9.

3. Bring Her Back

The Australian horror film Talk to Me was one of the best movies of 2022, and directors Danny and Michael Philippou are back for another terrifying tale. Bring Her Back is a dark and chilling meditation on grief and trauma. The story follows two half-siblings who are placed in the care of Laura, a strange foster mother who also looks after a mute boy. They soon discover that Laura is mourning the loss of her daughter and is determined to bring her back to life by any means necessary. With eerie performances and unsettling twists, this one isn’t for the faint of heart.
In cinemas July 16.

4. The Fantastic Four: First Steps

The MCU is finally bringing Marvel’s first family to its cinematic universe. Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach star as the MCU’s version of the beloved superhero team, the Fantastic Four. Set in a retro-futuristic parallel universe to today’s MCU, First Steps follows the team as they battle Galactus—a giant, planet-devouring villain threatening to erase their world from existence.
In cinemas July 23.

5. Sunshine

The latest film from director Antoinette Jadaone stars Maris Racal as Sunshine, a promising gymnast who discovers she is pregnant just days before her Olympic tryout—forcing her to consider abortion in order to compete. The powerful drama is a departure for Jadaone, who is best known for her romantic films. Sunshine premiered to glowing reviews at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival before winning Best Film at the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival earlier this year.
In cinemas July 23.
