Eala proceeds to Guadalajara Open final
Metro Manila, Philippines - Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala marches on to the 2025 Guadalajara Open finals after beating American foe Kayla Day, 6-2, 6-3, in the semifinal match early Saturday morning, Sept. 6 (Manila time).
This gives Eala yet another chance at her first-ever Women's Tennis Association (WTA) title, after her loss at the WTA 250 Eastbourne Open finals in late June.
The Guadalajara Open is part of the WTA 125 Circuit, the secondary professional circuit in women’s tennis.
During the semifinals, Eala had a slow start as Day secured two games in the first set, 0-2, before displaying dominance in the match that lasted for an hour and 8 minutes.
To clinch the Guadalajara Open crown, Eala will face Panna Udvardy of Hungary, who defeated Maria Kozyreva of Russia, 6-3, 6-4.
Eala and Udvardy met at the Round of 16 in the Oeiras Ladies Open, another WTA 125 event, in April. The Hungarian player won the face-off.
The Guadalajara Open championship match is set for early Sunday morning, Sept. 7 (Manila time).
