Who is Alex Eala's dream match opponent?
Metro Manila, Philippines - Alex Eala wants to be the best in her sport.
For her to achieve that, she must beat the top seeded player in Aryna Sabalenka, who also happens to be her dream match opponent.
The 19-year-old ace had the opportunity to battle Sabalenka in the Miami Open final, but she was eliminated by Jessica Pegula in their semifinal showdown.
"(Aryna) Sabalenka because she's the number one in the world. I found it fitting that in the semifinals, I was fighting for a place in the final against the number one in the world, so that's really where you want to be," Eala said in a virtual press conference sponsored by BPI and Globe Telecom with local media on Tuesday.
Following her historic run at the Miami Open, which included victories against former Grand Slam champions Jelena Ostapenko, Madison Keys, and Iga Swiwatek, all eyes will certainly be on Eala as she takes her next swing.
Eala, now ranked 73rd in the world, is shifting her focus to the French Open, where she is set to make her first main draw appearance as a professional player.
"The confidence is there. I think the shots are really high in quality after the week I just had. I haven’t been on clay in roughly a year so it’s been a while since I’ve stepped on the clay but that's really how it goes," she said.
"I’m just trying to adjust my game, feel around the court, and feel comfortable with the clay," she added.
The French Open will run from May 25 to June 8 in Paris.
