Metro Manila, Philippines — Embattled Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) player John Amores and his brother faced attempted homicide charges on Friday, Sept. 27, for their involvement in a shooting in Lumban, Laguna.

A security camera footage showed the brothers on a motorcycle with the PBA cager disembarking in the middle of a highway, running, and firing a gun at a person whom he had a heated argument with during an earlier basketball game on Wednesday.

Provincial prosecutors filed the cases before the Municipal Circuit Trial Court in Lumban-Kalayaan.

Amores and his brother posted bail at ₱24,000 and ₱10,000, respectively.

The brothers surrendered to authorities Thursday morning.

An attempted homicide conviction means serving time for six to 12 years.

Amores, an ex-Jose Rizal University player, was slapped with an indefinite ban by the National Collegiate Athletic Association after he went on a punching spree against College of St. Benilde (CSB) players in 2022. Two of the CSB players filed a complaint against Amores before the San Juan City Prosecutor's Office.

Despite a troubled past, Amores was still a pick by the NorthPort Batang Pier in the fifth round of the PBA Season 48 Rookie Draft.
