Metro Manila, Philippines — Two returning politicians will slug it out for Malabon City’s lone district representative seat in 2025.

Former Malabon Mayor Lenlen Oreta and ex-Rep. Ricky Sandoval filed their certificate of candidacy on Wednesday, Oct. 2.

Oreta, son of former Senator Tessie Oreta, was mayor from 2012 to 2022.

Sandoval is the husband of sitting Mayor Jeannie Sandoval. He was the representative of Malabon-Navotas for three terms, and the city’s lone district from 2016 to 2019.

“May the best man win,” said Sandoval when asked about their election match.

The former lawmaker said he seeks to improve flood control measures.

Oreta said he aims to provide more opportunities for residents.

"Sama-sama tayong magtatayo ng mas maliwanag na kinabukasan para sa iyo, para sa inyong mga anak, at para sa mga susunod na henerasyon,” Oreta said in a Facebook post.
